Kenyan students with global ambitions have been handed a rare and transformative opportunity, as the Government of Slovakia unveils a fully funded scholarship programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.
In a joint announcement by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nairobi and Kenya’s Ministry of Education on March 31, five prestigious slots have been opened for young Kenyans seeking to pursue undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies in Slovakia’s public universities.

Targeting applicants aged between 18 and 25, the programme is designed to nurture academic excellence across a broad spectrum of disciplines—from science and engineering to health sciences, agriculture, and emerging technologies.
The scholarship is comprehensive, covering tuition fees, accommodation, and a monthly subsistence allowance throughout the duration of study. However, successful candidates will be expected to finance their own travel, with airfare estimated between KSh 120,000 and KSh 150,000, and to set aside additional funds for initial settlement costs upon arrival.
What sets this opportunity apart is its structured academic preparation. All courses will be delivered in the Slovak language, requiring selected students to first undergo a fully funded, one-year intensive language and preparatory programme. This course will be hosted at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica from September 2026 to June 2027, equipping students with both linguistic proficiency and academic readiness.

The programme catalogue reflects Slovakia’s strategic investment in future-focused fields. Available courses include Teacher Training and Education Science, Economics and Management, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, and Agriculture. Health-related disciplines such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Public Health also feature prominently, alongside engineering pathways including Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering, as well as Computer Science and Cybernetics.
Applications are now open, with candidates required to obtain and complete official forms through the Ministry of Education. Submissions—accompanied by certified academic and personal documents—must be delivered to the Directorate of Higher Education in Nairobi, specifically at Telposta Towers, by April 30.
In addition, applicants must complete a parallel online submission through the Slovak Government scholarship portal by May 25, 2026, ensuring all documentation is uploaded in accordance with the guidelines.
Education officials have urged eligible candidates to approach the application process with precision and urgency, describing the scholarship as a gateway to international exposure and academic advancement fully backed by the Slovak Government.
